Pitch Haus

Applications are open! Submit your pitch by Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Alongside our partners with Creative Place Consulting and Studio M Detroit, we’ve launched a new grant competition for Michigan creatives to showcase your work in the community you call home.

We’re awarding four $25K grants to activate Pitch Haus, a mobile multi-functional space that will serve as a blank canvas. How you choose to active the Haus is limited only by your imagination. Fashion shows, art gallery, podcast studio, dinner party, DJ booth, performance space, classroom? It’s your Haus.

Make MI Home

In July 2024, the Michigan Growth Office launched a first-in-the-nation program called Make MI Home to retain folks who already call Michigan home and to welcome new residents to come and join us.

To date, we’ve invested over $1.4M to create 10 brand new, local programs each unique to their specific community that are currently running or coming soon in regions across the state to encourage talent to make Michigan their home.

Local Make MI Home programs offer benefits such as housing or relocation assistance, free college tuition, access to coworking spaces and mentorship as well as passes to local and cultural amenities.

Roadshows

Last year, we launched a series of roadshows in partnership with Black Tech Saturdays, engaging tech talent in strategic cities across the nation.

Our roadshows engaged over 600 individuals in states with high in and out-migration from Michigan, targeting tech and creative talent between the ages of 18-34.

Our goal was to increase awareness of Michigan’s fast growing tech, innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems, while highlighting Michigan as a great place to live, work, and grow your company.

As a result, the two pilot roadshow stops:

  • Garnered 1,200 RSVPs from interested individuals
  • Attracted over 600 attendees
  • Reported 80 out-of-state attendees that same month in attendance at Black Tech Saturdays’ end of year event in Detroit

Field Trips

In 2024, we launched a field trip program to increase exposure to Michigan’s great places to live and work, and even the playing field in terms of experience for students who haven’t had the opportunity to travel throughout out state.

To date, we’ve taken over 400 college students and interns on field trips to experience all that Grand Rapids, Detroit and Flint have to offer as places to call home. At each location, students toured neighborhoods, cultural institutions, workplaces and heard from local residents and employers.

As a result, over 90% said they are likely to accept a job in Michigan following their trip.

Conversations That Move People

We started a new social media series called Conversations That Move People where Chief Growth Officer Hilary Doe sits down with innovative and creative Michiganders to showcase why they love calling Michigan home.

She’s taken the series up to Mackinac Island and on the Detroit People Mover.

Brand Ambassadors

Debuting in 2025, #MIMOMENT is a new statewide brand ambassador program that anyone can participate in!

The effort is aimed at retaining talent and boosting Michigan’s brand globally by engaging residents and visitors as storytellers to showcase what makes Michigan extraordinary through their own unique perspective.

To participate in the ambassador program, post a Michigan moment and use the hashtag #MIMOMENT.  We’ll further amplify select posts on our social media channels @letsgrowmi.

Team Michigan Intern Cohort

In 2025, we launched an internship program to bolster talent retention with local employers where we supported paid internships and professional development opportunities for enrolled post-secondary interns.

Over 100 interns participated in summerlong Michigan-based internships along with Growth Office field trip programming to learn about professional opportunities in the state.

Interns were placed at over 30 small businesses and startups across the state in partnership with Emerge Consulting, the Michigan Founders Fund, Flint & Genesee Group and Invest UP.
