Let’s Grow, Michigan!

The Michigan Growth Office is leading the state’s most ambitious population growth effort in its history. We’re accomplishing this by launching pilots and programs as well as leading storytelling, research and policy initiatives.

Our goal is to make our state a magnet for talent, a hub for innovation, and a leader in education.

Alongside lots of partners statewide, we’re helping more people across the country realize how many talented people, opportunities, and amazing communities can be found in Michigan.

In the past year alone:

• 66% of Michigan counties grew.
• Detroit and Flint’s populations grew – breaking decades-long trends. 
• Grand Rapids ranked #1 for job and talent growth.
• The greater Traverse City area reached new highs in critical working age population, as a number of Northern Michigan counties grew fastest per capita statewide.
• Over 50,000 people signed up in the Michigan Career Portal, expressing their interest in living and working in Michigan, a result of our You Can in Michigan campaign.
• The state made historic investments in housing, education access, and entrepreneurship to advance priorities identified by Michiganders.  
• Most critically, growth in Michigan’s young adult population has accelerated faster than 45 other states – 5th fastest in the nation!
